About Hart School of Dance

Activities and Performances

Showtime; Our annual end of year concert

The end of year concert is the biggest event of the year, with the culmination of a year's work. We hold our performances at a fully equipped and very professional theatre where the students can experience all the theatrical elements as well as the thrill of performing. These performances also require extra rehearsals and it usually all takes place over the second weekend in December. A professional DVD and photographs are available to purchase early the following year.

Dance Camp

Our dance camp is a weekend that all students look forward to. Not only is it a lot of fun but students' experience varying styles of dance and can mingle with other students from other classes and schools. We employ professional teachers who are currently working within the industry, to conduct workshops for the students in many different dance styles and performance studies. The students are also given time and encouragement to choreograph and perform their own routines. The camp is held from a Friday evening through to a Sunday afternoon and is not a compulsory activity. Costs for the camp are relayed through camp information distributed closer to the time.

Examinations

Through recognised dance associations, the school participates in examinations in jazz and tap syllabi through to diploma levels, examined by an external, accredited examiner. Although the exams are not compulsory, we strongly advise that all students undertake these assessments as we believe they greatly strengthen their technical abilities and build assessment confidence. Examination days are held at the hall two to three times a year on a week day, therefore time away from school may be necessary, however plenty of notice will be given.

Competitions

During the course of the year the school enters some classes into troupe competitions. Although we do not encourage extreme competitive behaviour we believe that through these competitions the students receive more performance opportunities, which develops their performance style and improves their performance confidence. Competitions usually occur during weekends and school holidays two or three times a year.

If students wish to undertake solo performances at these competitions, private tuition can be arranged.
